We were truly honored to receive a Proclamation from Mayor Dyer and Commissioner Ings yesterday to bring awareness to Infant Mortality and our efforts to eradicating the scourge of prematurity and low birth weight among our local community. Our display of 1000 baby hats is ongoing in the Rotunda at City Hall for the next two weeks. Stop by and see it if you can. Thanks to everyone who supports our work. Go TEAM!!

"HEADS UP ON INFANT MORTALITY"
Did you know that 1,667 babies died before age one in 2008 in the state of Florida alone? Jennie Joseph started the “The Campaign for Healthier Babies to draw attention to infant mortality by attempting to knit or crochet one baby hat for every infant who did not reach their first birthday. To date almost 1000 hats have been collected as part of her “Heads Up on Infant Mortality” initiative. Joseph, midwife and director of The Birth Place birthing center in Winter Garden provides an outreach maternity clinic for indigent, uninsured and underinsured women and emphasizes that “too many babies are being born too soon, too small, or too sick to survive.” The baby hats will be shared out to local neonatal units and to needy families in the Orlando area. Please join us in our endeavor to promote early prenatal care, reduce prematurity and low-birth weight babies and save the lives of our children!
The hats will be displayed in The Rotunda at Orlando City Hall after Commissioner Samuel B. Ings presents a Proclamation marking January 25,, 2010
